Thermography is the discipline concerned with the acquisition, storage and analysis of radiated energy using a thermal infrared imaging system. Typically you will hear both infrared and thermal imaging. They are really the same thing. Thermography, however, refers to active collection and interpretation of infrared data. Thermography is the measurement of temperature remotely and non invasively. Thermography uses infrared radiation to measure the temperature and produce a thermal image or thermogram of the patient. It is 100% passive and non-invasive. Medical Thermography is currently being used in numerous medical fields including: Oncology, Disease Monitoring, Veterinarian, Dentistry as well as many new uses for thermal imaging in the medical field are discovered daily.

Medical Thermography has the ability to show physiological change as well as metabolic processes, rather than just anatomical details. Thermography can visualize radiant energy or heat from the patient or object. It does this by
objectively displaying the changes in skin surface temperature that usually are a sign of abnormalities.  Medical Thermography can show a both the autonomic nervous system and the vascular system, down to capillary dysfunctions. The effects of these changes show up as asymmetries in temperature spots on the surface of the patient.  Medical Thermography has become a way to monitor thermal abnormalities present in a number
of diseases and physical injuries. It is used to aid in diagnosis, prognosis and possible treatment.

In neuro-muscular disorders, thermography is used to visually illustrate injury to soft tissue and nerves.  Results are gathered with computer-assisted thermal imaging systems and are totally objective; demonstrating correlation with
other diagnostic tests.  An experienced thermography and physician can use these thermal images (thermograms) to help spot abnormal temperature readings and trends allowing for early detection of cancer as well as other illnesses.  Currently uncovered by insurance, Medical Thermography is gaining momentum and will soon be the norm for most physicians practicing preventative medicine.
